Reading and Writing

Reading You Are a Badass at Making Money by Jen Sincero. A law of attractionarish guide to the said subject. I guess you could call her a sassy woman writer, but she’s more towards funny then cute. She doesn’t say anything too new about the law of attraction, but I like the way she says it.

Going outside a lot more in the spring and writing short stories. I never use a laptop. When I’m out I prefer to be out and when I’m in, I do my work on an elaborate desktop with a huge screen. It’s not that my eyes are bad, but there’s something that comforts me about the whole set up. It feels like I’ve really sat down to write.

New Beginning

Every once in awhile, I just start over. This is my new blog. I have made the old one disappear because I don’t like it. You can probably go to the Wayback Machine if you really wanted to spend the effort and look some old posts up, but I hope you won’t. I want a brand new beginning.

I’ve been reading a lot of literary short stories. I’m particularly enjoying The Dark and other Love Stories by Deborah Willis. The title story stands out as hypnotizing prose on childhood and friendship that all comes together at the end. I didn’t know what to make of Girlfriend on Mars at first, but it adds up to a whimsical but also serious look into the relationship of two stoners going past the initial stereotypes into what really makes them tick.

On the nonfiction side I’ve almost finished The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle. A lot of good points about living in the present and well written, although I think it’s a little exaggerated. Most people live in the present sometimes and sometimes don’t. When they don’t, the sky doesn’t fall down.
